While Mee Kolok is a local cuisine that influence by the Chinese cuisines, this Mee Jawa dish is influence by Javanese cuisine and was adapted to local tastes. It features yellow noodles served with a thick, slightly sweet and tangy gravy made from tomatoes, potatoes, and spices. It is often topped with boiled eggs, fried tofu and bean sprouts.

In peninsular Malaysia, there are also available in certain restaurant. But the Sarawak version of Mee Jawa has a unique twist, reflecting the state’s diverse culinary heritage.
